Transport
Durban International Airport services both domestic and international flights, only a 10 minute drive from the City .

Various domestic services fly frequently from the airport. These include Kulula, OneTime, SA Express and SAA.

Within Durban the MYNAH BUS, is a frequent and reliable local bus service that ferries passengers between the north and south beaches, the CBD and surrounding suburbs.

Car rental is available through all the usual companies - Avis, Hertz, Budget, Europcar and so on.

One national road starts in Durban and one passes through it: The N3, the busiest national road in South Africa, which links Durban with Johannesburg; and the N2, which links Durban with Ermelo, East London, and Port Elizabeth before ending in Cape Town. The N3 is particularly important as goods are moved by truck from Johannesburg to be shipped out of the Port of Durban. The N3 starts in the Central

Metered taxis are not allowed to drive around the city to solicit fares and instead must be called and ordered to a specific location. There are a number of companies which service the Durban and surrounding regions. These taxi's can also be called upon for airport transfers, point to point pick ups and shuttles.

Minibus taxis are the standard form of transport for the majority of the population who cannot afford private cars.

Durban is also famous for its iconic Zulu Rickshaw pullers navigating throughout the city. These colourful characters are famous for their giant, vibrant hats and costumes. Although they have been a mode of transportation since the early 1900s, they mostly cater to tourists.

Overlooking the Durban Harbour and the Natal Royal Yacht club and set just off the Victoria Embankment, Wilson’s Wharf offers the sightseer a cross section of diverse choices; from a browsers market consisting of numerous stalls selling anything from arts and crafts to souvenirs of Durban and KwaZulu-Natal to fully licensed upmarket restaurants boasting exotic seafood menus. Wilson’s Wharf should be on every visitor to Durban’s must see list.

In keeping with most cities the size of Durban, there is a satisfying variety of dining houses. Apart from Indian, Italian and American/European cuisine, there is also Thai, Mexican, Chinese, Greek and various other cuisines.

Travel tip
Lightweight clothing is recommended during the summer in Durban. In winter, a jacket or coat may be needed, particularly in the evenings. Neutral colours are suggested in game reserves.
